Recordings by Johnny Cash

Album: A Believer Sings The Truth
Label: Cachet
Year: 1979
Producer: Johnny Cash
Comment:  This is an album that struggled to see daylight. Columbia would not get behind the two record set of gospel songs. Cash released it on Cachet. Cuts from the album have shown up on later compilation recordings. This is the only recording of Cash doing the popular "Children Go Where I Send Thee." Also included is a later recording of the first song that John and the Tennessee Two had pitched to Sam Phillips..."I Was There When It Happened". Marshall Grant joins John on vocals on this one.

Info

A Believer Sings the Truth is a gospel double album by American country singer Johnny Cash. Though eventually released by Columbia records, Cash had trouble convincing the label to release the album, and initially released it on his own on the Cachet label and as a radio special with added narration. Columbia was doubtful that a double album of gospel songs would be commercially successful.
