John & Waylon did record the song, which was written by Bob
McDill ("Amanda," "Learning to Live Again," "We Must Believe in
Magic," "You Turn Me On")and release it as a single, but LARRYBAIRD
is right, John & Merle actualy recorded it about a month and a
half before (actually Merle's wife, Leona Williams also sang on the
cut). But old rivalries and record company decion-makers kept the
song on the shelf, plus the fact that it was just a one-off, the
product of a drop-by visit to Hendersonville by the Haggards, and was
"not ready for prime-time." It worked out better two days after the
bi-centennial celebration, when Waylon came to House of Cash Studios
and put it down with John, along with "There Ain't No Good Chain
Gang," which of course ended up on "I Would Like to See You Again."
