"A Satisfied
Mind" was Porter Wagoner's first #1 song in 1955, although John's
version owes more to Tim Hardin's recording of the song. Hardin did it for
his 1971 "Bird On a Wire" album. Of course, this is just another
of the Hardin connections, following "If I Were a Carpenter,"
"Lady Came From Baltimore," "Reason to Believe," and
even Leonard Cohen's "Bird on the Wire," which John wanted to
record ever since he first heard it from Gary Klein in 1974.
Dylan also recorded it for his 1980 "Saved" album.
