We Were All At The Tribute

Remember the first time we saw John? It was that bad winter of '62.

There was a blizzard and we didn't know if we 'd make it through.

We did and he did and the Tennessee Three did and it was helleva show.

.He sang Folsom Prison. Mom said she'd a'killed herself if we didn't go.

Remember that time at the Gardens? Johnny Cash was doin' mighty fine.

I wish mom had been there when 25,000 people silently Walked The Line.

Remember ABC...the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat?

When Johnny Cash came on, everyone was in their assigned seat.

Ty was just a kid then and he always sat on the floor, right at dad's feet.

Phone off the hook; John and June; God knows who; it was our weekly treat.

Remember, ABC killed the show, it was gettin' hard to find him on radio?

We didn't like it but carried on....played the songs on our brand new stereo.

Remember in the 80s, the papers said the days of Johnny Cash were done?

Like bourbon, he aged with grace and John's concerts were even more fun.

Remember, in the 90s when that teenager asked, "who's this Johnny Cash?"

A cool dude was singing like nothing he'd ever heard in the airborne trash.

Remember getting him, a suckling of the cowboy hat breed, up to speed?

Johnny Cash is a long, deep book....all are invited and all welcome to read.

The New York Tribute must have been something to see.

The true tribute is in the hearts of millions never seen on TV.
